The production of palm oil is controversial, both from an environmental and social sustainability aspect, because palm oil plantations are often established on land that was once tropical rainforest.
As part of our sustainability efforts it has been decided to gradually replace the palm oil found in Martin & Servera's private label products with vegetable oil, or responsibly produced palm oil.
The long term goal is that all palm oil in Martin & Servera's private label products is 100% certified to the level of "segregated" by the year 2017. This means that all the palm oil used is actually certified, but not traceable to individual plantations.
Working towards the long term goal, we will also use certified oil at the level of "mass balance". Levels "segregated" and "mass balance" are in accordance with the principles of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
In addition, dialogues have been conducted with all suppliers to review their use of palm oil and their efforts for sustainable alternatives in their products.
